OUR MISSION
Capt. Dave Anderson and his wife Gisele Anderson have formed
an organization, the "International Whale and Dolphin Fund".
Our mission is to help people to fall in love with the
incredible dolphins and whales off Southern California --- to learn about them and how to protect them. We believe
seeing these beautiful animals in the wild and raising awareness to some of their threats, will help keep them, and
other whales all over the world, safe. After all, how can we protect something, if we don't even know it is
there?
"Whale Watching TV" is part of that mission, but our biggest
project is Blue.
According to the WWF, 1,000 dolphins and whales are
dying every day because of fishing gear entanglement, more than what died in the whaling days. This is the
biggest threat facing dolphins and whales today! We believe Blue the film has the potential to help
alert the world to this problem and galvanize the public to action to prevent these deaths. Click here to learn more about Blue.
Also, we believe that given a choice of saving a whale
or saving a child most people would choose the child. So, whenever possible we will try to do
both. We did this with our first film WILD DOLPHINS AND WHALES OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA. The
film acomplishes its mission of letting people see and learn about our whales and dolphins, and half the money from
the profits of film sales went to support a World Vision project in Gangawako (a village in Malawii,
Africa hardstruck by AIDS where many children are orphaned). World vision recently finished their program in
the village, so now half the profits are being used to raise money for tools and equipment to rescue entangled
whales and dolphins in southern California.. This is the model for how we will handle things with
Blue.
WHAT WE HAVE DONE SO FAR
-
The award winning film, Wild Dolphins and Whale of Southern California in 2004. This
beautiful film educated people on the animals living right off our coast, and the challenges they face
from pollution, boats and gill nets.
-
Used half of the profits from the film to support Gangawako village in Malawi, Africa and
raised money for tools and equipment needed to rescue whales off Orange County.
-
Donated hundreds of DVDs of the film to schools and libraries.
-
Lectures at aquariums and institutes and cruise ships on dolphins and whales and the dangers they face
in the wild.
-
Organized Orange County's only whale-disentanglement group.
-
Founded Ocean Awareness Day at the Festival of Whales.
-
Took tens of thousands of people out to see dolphins and whales and taught them about the dangers they
face from fishing gear entanglement, whaling and pollution.
NOW ...WHAT IS NEXT
-
Capt. Dave has written the script for Blue to raise awareness of the biggest crisis facing the
dolphin and whales today --bycatch from fishing net entanglement, Over 1,000 dolphins and whales die
every day in fishing gear. estimated cost to produce - three million dollars.
-
Produce a feature-length film.
-
To offer education curriculum to teachers and schools who might want to use Whale Watching TV in their
classroom.
-
Expand and improve Whale Watching TV. We would like to have a camera man onboard filming at all
times. We would also like to broadcast live in HD - this could be done for about 1,500 dollars a
month. We would also like to add other whale watching boats from different parts of the
world to this channel.
